The 360 DVD Firmware Hack.. Start Your Engines…

hsdemonz 21 Mar 2006 | : unrelentless meaningless drivel

It’s become quite apparent that the 360 pirate scene is on a precipice.  With the firmware Hack videos making the rounds, and the ever constant bombardment of authenticating stories and comments on Xbox-Scene, Xbox-Hacker and Team Xecuter sites the pirate kiddies of the world are being driven into a fever pitch.

While it is now possible (assuming you got the “leaked files”) to have some fun with some pirate copies of games (1:1) it’s still not elegant, or sexy. Granted, pirates, usually the lowest common denominator in this or any scene won’t care. They are more than willing to wreck havoc on the esthetics of their consoles in order to save some coin in the end.

Personally, for at least myself, priorities have definitely changed. Piracy is by no means an important priority. More so, I tend to even avoid it now. I never did play or try out all the goodies once acquired. Recently, I cleansed the ilk from my home. So much wasted time with games never played, movies and music never watched or listened to, etc.

While I’ll cheer the successes of this event, I myself, must sit back, and eagerly await the hopeful future of homebrew or some useful OS being installed and use on these bastard machines. :)

For me.. the box isn’t modded until we can enjoy XBMC or a reasonable facsimile on the 360. Until that goal is achieved, all others, are pretenders.

That’s my opinion.. it may not be yours.. but it should be.

March’s LIVE UPDATE Killing Xbox360 Consoles?

hsdemonz 09 Mar 2006 | : unrelentless meaningless drivel

At this point I couldn’t say for any certainty that the March Update is having any real adverse affects on anyone’s consoles. However, some people on the Xbox.com forums are having a lot of grief after updating to the March Patch.

I’ve personally updated.. many of my units, and all my friends have too. (with no adverse affects) However, that’s not to say that the update isn’t bugged in some fashion. (Each update has caused people an equal amount of grief so far..)

Those who don’t frequent LIVE often, might want to put off updating if they don’t need a LIVE feature, at least until Microsoft/Xbox people confirm or deny the issue exists. Personally, the update worked for me and everyone I play with on LIVE.

Hopefully, if there is a real issue, it gets addressed sooner as opposed to later.

An informal poll amongst friends, family, and online colleagues… 38 consoles.. all updated.. all functioning as they did before the update (fine)

I personally have no doubt at least a few reports are legit. Some will be shills. It’s a given.

This does bring up some interesting questions though. Many 360 owners.. (Launch Day) are now beyond the stock warranty. (and didn’t buy extra)

When and if a LIVE update pooches a box, how will MS/XBOX deal with customers. I’m sure each and every time an updates comes out.. a few people will have consoles that go south on them. For those people.. will MS step up and support them? Or at least offer to pay for shipping and look at the console themselves to determine if the fault was user based, hardware natural age and/or defect.. or a software/update issue.

All of the issues reported.. can and have happened without updates as well. None of the problems reported were unique. So at this point it isn’t easy to say with any certainty that the update is the culprit.

Of course.. every owner of the 3-400 dollar beastie will cry foul if the box goes down. If an update was done recently, it will be the first thing to be blamed time and time again.

So.. I’ll reserve judgment. Course.. I’m in a position to do so. Non of my consoles went down.

Peace.
